Please join us to hear how people across Detroit are banning together to address issues like Asthma rates, basement flooding, access to jobs and extreme weather events. Climate change is already hitting Detroit neighborhoods. U of M has observable data that Detroit's temp have increased since 1960! So have predicted the health impacts of climate change. Always Brewing Coffee 19180 Grand River Detroit, MI. Health, blight, crime, jobs, extreme weather and more are scientifically connected to climate change. The Detroit Climate Action Collaborative is building a network of neighborhoods to take action in addressing these issues. A major radio station has asked to come out and broadcast at our meeting on the 20th. We are just getting started. Come join others in taking action on a neighborhood level. Detroit Climate Action Collaborative (DCAC), an initiative of Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, is developing the city of Detroit’s first Climate Action Plan with District Community Leaders meeting with people from various sectors, including residents, block club captains, nonprofit leaders, pastors, and small business owners. We intend to develop innovative solutions to reduce carbon pollution and believe that engagement and input from the community are key roles in this process. DCAC wants to ensure that Detroit is more livable and resilient in the face of climate change. Our approach to climate change is through an environmental justice lens. The Detroit Climate Action Plan is an opportunity for Detroit to come back in a way that is built on good paying jobs that go hand in hand with clean neighborhoods, better health, strong city services and lower costs for businesses and residents. Health Sector Based Meeting on Climate Change Detroit Climate Action Collaborative (DCAC) Public Health Forum, which will be held on Monday, August 17th at the University of Michigan Detroit Center, located at 3663 Woodward Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. DCAC is leading the development of the city of Detroit’s first Climate Action Plan, which will be released this fall.
