Description

Join us at Ecotrust’s Natural Capital Center, a hub for ideas and urban community, for a unique series of free outdoor concerts on First Thursdays this Summer (7/02, 8/06, 9/05). The concerts feature outstanding local performers and street fair-style booths fostering environmental awareness and community engagement. On July 2nd the theme is climate and features Portland Cello Project. Our second concert is August 6th with the theme water and forests and features Orquestra Pacifico Tropical & Mimicking Birds. Our concert series concludes September 3rd with the theme food and will feature Horse Feathers & School of Rock.

Sundown is quintessential summer in Portland – equal parts indie concert, block party, and classic Portland street fair. Each evening, the musical performances will be complemented by a street fair-style Showcase focused on a theme—climate (July), water and forests (August), and food (September). Each Showcase will feature over 40 interactive booths that connect attendees with inspiring organizations working in the Pacific Northwest to deliver inventive solutions within conservation and environmentally-responsible enterprise.

For the first time the series will also line-up with First Thursdays, a 31-year-old tradition when the whole neighborhood comes to life with arts and culture. Ecotrust is inviting a host of creative performers to expand and deepen the series’ cultural engagement, from the Portland Cello Project bringing a whole evening of the famed “All Ages Dance Party” (July) to School of Rock (September). At every show, ice cream bombast and visionary Morgan Street Theatre will dish up one-of-a-kind desserts. Expect the unexpected.

These family-friendly events also include the “Sundown Kid’s Corner” hosted by Metro Portland’s Kids Calendar, with art and educational activities to keep the little rockers happy. Frosty beverages and tasty local fare will be provided by Hot Lips Pizza and Laughing Planet. The series will be powered by a green power source.
