The Columbia Slough Watershed Council works to connect the community with the watershed through restoration, recreation and restoration in North and Northeast Portland. Join us for Stewardship Saturdays, our monthly restoration work parties at locations all around the watershed! Restoring headwater habitat, that is the habitat at the source of a river or stream, is an important part of the waterway restoration process. Wilkes Creek flows into the Columbia Slough, so its protection is part of a greater effort to keep the Slough healthy. Join the Council and Wilkes Community Group for a day of restoration! Exact activities are to be determined, but we’ll likely focus on invasive species removal and native plant maintenance. Please register on our website to receive details about the event as they become available. This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided. This opportunity is open to volunteers 16 years and older, unless accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under 18 should contact the Council for a special youth waiver.

The Columbia Slough Watershed Council works to connect the community with the watershed through restoration, recreation and restoration in North and Northeast Portland. Join us for Stewardship Saturdays, our monthly restoration work parties at locations all around the watershed! Help us continue our work along the Peninsula Crossing Trail! Over the last planting season the Council, local students and teams of volunteers have planted hundreds of native species along the trail, creating habitat for native birds, bugs and other Slough fauna - not to mention great sights for trail travelers! The maintenance and upkeep of these plantings is essential until the plants can fend for themselves. Lend and hand! Exact activities are yet to be determined, but we’ll likely weed and spread mulch. Register on our website to receive details about the event as they become available. This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided. This opportunity is open to volunteers 16 years and older, unless accompanied by an adult. The Columbia Slough Watershed Council works to connect the community with the watershed through restoration, recreation and restoration in North and Northeast Portland. Join us for Stewardship Saturdays, our monthly restoration work parties at locations all around the watershed! Celebrate Earth Day with us this April! We’ll be partnering with the Wilkes Neighborhood Association to remove invasive English ivy from the headwaters of Wilkes Creek. Managing these aggressive invasive weeds helps make sure that native plants have a chance to establish themselves. Wilkes Creek is a part of the Slough system, so it’s protection helps advance the Council’s mission to protect, enhance, restore and revitalize the Slough and its watershed.

Join us for Stewardship Saturdays, our monthly restoration work parties at locations all around the watershed! Return to Wilkes City Park to care for the native plantings that we put in during the Winter! Without proper care, our little plants won’t survive the dry summer. Exact maintenance activities are to be determined. Check our website for developments, or better yet, register for this event below and receive an update via email. This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided. Over the last several years you, our volunteers, have planted hundreds of native plants around Whitaker Ponds Nature Park. Now you can help these plants thrive by sheet mulching and removing invasive plant competitors. Many hands make light work, so register your friends and family now for this group-friendly volunteer activity. We’ll be mulching plants, planting natives and helping beautify the grounds. This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided. Register for this event here. For event details, contact Community Involvement Coordinator Hanna Davis at [email protected] or call 503.281.1132 *We hope to see you out here on the Slough!*
