Join us as we flip the switch! catchtheorange.com/firstlight We're turning on Tilikum Crossing's aesthetic light program for good, just before the bridge and MAX Orange Line open. We'll have a public viewing area at Zidell Yards, just south of the bridge in South Waterfront. The site will include a BridgePort beer garden, Salt & Straw's special-edition Orange Line ice cream, food carts and a live broadcast of music to accompany the show. Plus, the best view in town! All Classical Portland 89.9 FM will provide a live broadcast to a special opening light show, after which the lights will begin their permanent programmed sequence. The full spectrum of colors—based on the height, speed and temperature of the Willamette River below—will be on display during this historical event. The aesthetic lighting was created by artists Douglas Hollis and his wife, the late Anna Valentina Murch, for the Portland–Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project’s Public Art Program. Some things to know before you go: – The public viewing area opens at 6 p.m.—the aesthetic lighting program will begin at approximately 9 p.m. – Please bring a lawn or beach chair for seating. – Take Portland Streetcar to the SW Moody & Meade stop or locate a nearby bus route – Bike parking will be provided. No vehicle parking will be provided. – No animals (including dogs) are permitted except government approved service animals. Please join Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant at a rally in Portland for her re-election campaign! Mark your calendar now! From the streets of Baltimore to the growing movement for a $15 minimum wage, consistent protests are erupting against the endemic inequality and racism generated by Wall Street and their social system. With growing anger at the corporate policies of both main political parties, millions are looking for an alternative. Since her election in 2013, Councilmember Sawant has led the opposition to the corporate agenda in the Pacific Northwest. An unapologetic fighter for working people, she refuses all corporate donations and accepts only the average worker’s wage. Despite being a city councilmember, she has risked arrest in order to stand with workers fighting for a living wage and with environmentalists blockading coal trains. Her re-election will inspire more oppressed people to fight for our rights, and it will prove again that it is completely possible to elect candidates who reject corporate cash. Kshama Sawant has inspired movements across the country, including in Portland, such as the $15 Now movement. That is why corporations across the country are funding her opponents’ campaigns. We in Portland absolutely need to support her historic re-election. Invite your friends, and join us! (If you cannot make it to this rally & fundraiser on September 12, please donate at http://www.kshamasawant.org/ ) Sponsored by Kshama Sawant Re-election Campaign. Endorsed by Socialist Alternative and 15 Now PDX. If your organization would like to endorse, please let us know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE: The Kshama Sawant re-election rally has been rescheduled for Sat., September 12, 2015. Socialist Alternative Portland and Kshama Sawant have gotten an overwhelming response from the Portland community and we will be using these extra weeks to organize the strongest speaker panel possible. In addition to Kshama Sawant discussing leading issues like Black Lives Matter and the fight for a 15 dollar an hour minimum wage, we are excited to feature leading independent activist speakers from right here in Portland. It's going to be an amazing and inspiring night! Thank you so much for your understanding. With your help, we can send a clear message that in Portland there is a strong interest not only in independent candidate Kshama Sawant, but also in local independent politics as well. Please direct any questions to [email protected] See you on Sept. 12 at the rally! - Socialist Alternative Portland http://www.facebook.com/events/1596082527348052/

What is cooperative culture? How do we embody it? What do we focus on? Social skills affect a group’s ability to manage and resolve conflicts, make decisions, and maintain a sense of general harmony. Maikwe Ludwig, the executive director of Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, invites you to explore a variety of conflict resolution models and social skills that can help your community thrive. This workshop introduces key skills that make cooperative endeavors more powerful, easy, and fulfilling for everyone involved. Ideal for people living in intentional community, doing progressive social change work and working on any cooperative endeavor. Skills that we focus on include: speaking and listening to be understood distinguishing between being heard and being agreed with finding the agreement in hard conversations developing compassion & self-awareness Come ready to stretch, laugh, and learn new skills!
