The Process Work Institute, in collaboration with Teens Rise Up (TRU) and 361ArtWorks presents:
Summer Youth Leadership Intensive
July 13-17, 2015
at the Process Work Institute, Portland, Oregon
This 5-day intensive workshop is for teens aged 15-18 who want to develop their leadership capacity and make an impact in their friendships, their families, their communities and the world. Teens will learn innovative methods to increase personal power, develop creativity, strengthen relationship and facilitate conflict within themselves and in groups. The course will gather a diverse group of young people with a variety of backgrounds and life experience. The diversity of the group will offer students the opportunity to learn more about difference, explore the roots of conflict and to find their authentic voice and the courage to use it. Our use of the arts make it all the more fun and inspiring, even for so called “non-creative” types.
Intensive leaders: Dawn Menken and Jan Dworkin.

Portland's Urban Native Americans: What You Need to Know to Be An Ally
Taught by Christine Dupres (Cowlitz/Cree tribe), Ph.D.
Wednesdays 7-8:30 at SE Uplift, 3534 SE Main St, four weeks $60 (Space limited to 15)
Native Americans face tricky sociopolitical and structural inequities in today's Portland. What does it mean to be an ally? Explore the issues impacting Native Americans, the history behind them, and gain a language for supporting the lives and culture of Native people. This experimental, silly, and interactive class will crush stereotypes and raise hell. In a fun way.
Class 1 (June 10): The Context for Urban Natives of Portland: who we are, where we were, what we're doing now. Current studies estimate at least 60% of Native people live off reservation. Historically, this is no accident. Discover why it's important to understand the unique characteristics of Urban Indians compared to other nonwhite urban populations, and to their reservation counterparts. Learn about federal policy toward Native peoples like the Doctrine of Discovery and its role in US expansion. We'll look at Portland's Native Indians as a case study and consider the contemporary impact of policies upon Native people.

The 14th Annual Northwest String Summit (NWSS) returns to Horning's Hideout (North Plains, OR) with the finest acoustic pickers and standout electric bands from July 16 - 19, 2015. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning's Hideout stands as one of the most scenic festival sites in the country; NWSS is the only music offering this year taking place at Horning's Hideout. A family-friendly and locally-sourced festival, NWSS caps its capacity at 4,500 attendees to ensure an intimate experience for all festival-goers at an incredible ticket price. For more detailed information, please visit: www.stringsummit.com.
The 14th Annual Northwest String Summit is hosted by Colorado-based Yonder Mountain String Band; arguably the top touring neo-bluegrass band in the world. Del McCoury & David Grisman, 2 Nights of The Infamous Stringdusters, Keller Williams' Grateful Grass, Keller Williams & The Travelin' McCourys, The Greyboy Allstars (Late Night Main Stage), Nahko & Medicine For The People, Elephant Revival (2 Sets), Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Fruition (2 Nights), Rising Appalachia (2 Nights), Shook Twins, Scott Law & Larry Keel with Darol Anger, Samson Grisman and Jack Dwyer, Larry Keel, Town Mountain, Adam Aijala & Larry Keel, The California Honeydrops, Dead Winter Carpenters, Darol Anger, Shafty, Frank Fairfield, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Henhouse Prowlers, Polecat, Trout Steak Revival, Gipsy Moon, The Grant Farm, The Student Loan, Crow and the Canyon, The Good Time Travelers, Eight Dollar Mountain, Pete Kartsounes, Arthur Lee Land, Alice DiMecele, The Hill Dogs, Left Coast Country, and more acts to be announced soon!
In addition to the Main Stage, this year’s String Summit boasts a brand new late night stage, the Kinfolk Revival Tent. Due to the overwhelming popularity of last year’s late night shows down at the Cascadia Stage, full production sets (including light shows) at the Kinfolk Revival Tent will commence shortly after the Main Stage shows featuring bands such as Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Elephant Revival and Fruition. The Cascadia Stage will continue providing mellow morning entertainment running into the early afternoon, as well as late night music running concurrent with the Kinfolk Revival Tent.
Northwest String Summit partners with singular Portland organizations, food vendors and emerging Pacific Northwest-based musicians as a way to support the various thriving local communities. Celebrated Eugene, OR favorite Ninkasi Brewing Company will offer exceptional craft beers onsite for the fourth year-in-a-row, including an exclusive small-batch NW String Summit Festival Specialty Brew called Clusterpluck Session Ale. Made with Northwest Pale Ale and Honey malts, Clusterpluck is a light and refreshing golden ale -- the perfect accompaniment to a summertime jam session. In Other Words' Adult Young Adult Book Club is a fun, casual discussion group for fans of YA literature. We meet at In Other Words on the third Thursday of each month to discuss young adult novels through a feminist/queer lens. How do our reactions to YA literature change as we age? What messages do authors send to young people? Do the stories line up with our memories of being teenagers? We read contemporary work and also revisit classic authors like Judy Blume and SE Hinton.

Please join Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant at a rally in Portland for her re-election campaign! Mark your calendar now!
https://www.facebook.com/events/1596082527348052/
Since her election in 2013, Councilmember Sawant has electrified the opposition to the corporate agenda in the Pacific Northwest. An unapologetic fighter for working people, she refuses all corporate donations and accepts only the average worker's wage. Her re-election will prove again that it is completely possible to elect candidates who reject corporate cash.
Kshama Sawant has inspired movements across the country, including in Portland, such as the $15 Now movement, by delivering on her campaign promise to make Seattle the first major city to pass a $15/hour minimum wage less than six months after she took office. Now Kshama is tackling head-on the crisis of skyrocketing rents by fighting for rent control, for a Tenants’ Bill of Rights, and for the city to build thousands of high-quality apartments rented at below-market rates. She is working to fully fund a world-class public transit system, and to implement Municipal Broadband as an alternative to the Comcast and Centurylink monopolies.
As a representative of working people, Kshama does not take a penny in corporate cash. While the rest of the City Council pays themselves $120,000/year, Councilmember Sawant takes only the average worker’s wage and donates the remainder to a Solidarity Fund to help build social justice movements.
As Kshama recently said on Democracy Now, "Polls show the vast majority of the U.S. is to the left of the political choices presented. It's our responsibility to fill the vacuum to the left of the Democratic Party by building a political alternative for working people."
That is why corporations across the country are funding her opponents' campaigns. We in Portland absolutely need to support her historic re-election. Mark your calendar, invite your friends, and join us at this rally and fundraiser!

Please join Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant at a rally in Portland for her re-election campaign! Mark your calendar now!
From the streets of Baltimore to the growing movement for a $15 minimum wage, consistent protests are erupting against the endemic inequality and racism generated by Wall Street and their social system. With growing anger at the corporate policies of both main political parties, millions are looking for an alternative.
Since her election in 2013, Councilmember Sawant has led the opposition to the corporate agenda in the Pacific Northwest. An unapologetic fighter for working people, she refuses all corporate donations and accepts only the average worker’s wage. Despite being a city councilmember, she has risked arrest in order to stand with workers fighting for a living wage and with environmentalists blockading coal trains. Her re-election will inspire more oppressed people to fight for our rights, and it will prove again that it is completely possible to elect candidates who reject corporate cash.
Kshama Sawant has inspired movements across the country, including in Portland, such as the $15 Now movement. That is why corporations across the country are funding her opponents’ campaigns. We in Portland absolutely need to support her historic re-election. Invite your friends, and join us!
(If you cannot make it to this rally & fundraiser on July 17th, please donate at http://www.kshamasawant.org/ )
Sponsored by Kshama Sawant Re-election Campaign.
Endorsed by Socialist Alternative, 15 Now PDX, and Nick Caleb for Portland City Council. If your organization would like to endorse, please let us know.

Help us keep our Bike Fleet in good condition and working order!
Each year we teach thousands of Portland 4th and 5th graders to bike safely on the street with these bikes. They need routine maintenance every month to keep the parts working smoothly. So if you’ve got mechanic skills, come join us for some greasy fun on the third Saturday of every month from 10 am to 2 pm.
Directions: It's on the NE corner of NE 21st Ct. and Pacific Avenue. It's just northeast of the Sunshine Dairy, but still south of I-84. Our shop entrance is on the NW corner of that block, through the chain link fence.
Please sign up if you can make it and bring your own coffee cup if you like hot coffee! Thanks to Grand Central Bakery for providing snacks for us.
*Maintenance Days are usually scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of every month from 10-2pm at the Parks Building. So mark your calendars and invite a handy friend!

More pluck for your buck in 2015!
Yonder will perform for 3 nights of music, and additional standout acts at this year's festival include 2 Nights of Greensky Bluegrass, Del McCoury Band, Del & Dawg feat.
Additional sponsors include Klean Kanteen, Keen, and Marley Coffee.

We love local bike shops. They tune up our bikes after long, wet winters. Their staff ride on the same bike routes and trails that we do. They don’t mind if we try on every helmet in the store before making a decision and, for BTA members, they’ll usually knock 10% off the price.
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance has teamed up with Base Camp Brewing Company and The Portland Mercury to pay tribute to these local hubs of bike community. Every month, we will have “BTA Shop Beers” at a different local bike shop. Find out what’s new in your community, learn about the BTA, and have a beer with friends old and new.
_________
This month's Shop Beers will be held at the Bike Gallery's downtown store.
Fun facts about the Bike Gallery:
Founded in 1974, Bike Gallery is the Northwest's #1 Trek Bicycles dealer. Its former owner, Jay Graves, was one of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance's first supporters. Bike Gallery continues to support the BTA as well as Portland's biggest bike events like Sunday Parkways, Bridge Pedal, and Cycle Oregon. Bike Gallery has locations in Downtown, Hollywood, Woodstock, Clackamas, Lake Oswego, and Beaverton. BTA members with current membership cards receive 10% off parts and accessories at all six locations!

While some of you have seen him at shows for a few weeks, July 30th will allow us to officially celebrate his full time return to the band, and the return of the trio, at The Kennedy School's most excellent ballroom.
Lucas, Willo, and Greg will be playing material they have been unable to perform since his injury, as well as debuting a batch of brand new songs.
No other bands, no other acts,
just two sets from Three For Silver and all of you
and it'll be totally free and all ages
Also, since it is the Kennedy School, we can all get in the soaking pool afterwords. Think about it...

Oregon Humanities’ 2015 Think & Drink series continues Thursday, July 30, with writer Eula Biss at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland. Think & Drink sparks provocative conversations about big ideas.
Biss is the author of *On Immunity: An Inoculation*, an investigation of fears and anxieties surrounding vaccination. The book, which Biss says was inspired by conversations with other mothers while pregnant with her first child, was named one of the ten best books of 2014 by the *New York Times Book Review*. The Chicago writer’s other works include *Notes from No Man’s Land*, a collection of essays on race and identity in America, and *The Balloonists*, a collection of narrative prose poems.
At Think & Drink, Biss will discuss vaccination and immunity, science and fear, and choosing between personal belief and public benefit with Adam Davis, executive director of Oregon Humanities.
Tickets for the event ($10 general admission) are available at albertarosetheatre.com. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Minors are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Leo - July 23 -August 21
Leo is the lion, this well suited symbol represents Leo very well. They possess a kingdom which they protest and cherish. They are high esteemed, honorable and very devoted to themselves in particular! The kingdom could be anything from work to home to a partner, whatever it is, they rule it. Leo is always center stage and full of flair, they enjoy basking in the spotlight. A Leo always makes their presence known. Leo are full of energy that acts like a magnet for other people. Others are attracted to Leo's wit, charm, and what they have to say for they speak of things grand and very interesting. Leo will never settle for second best. They want only the best which can cause lavish excessive spending habits as they enjoy their life of luxury, which is all to easily justified by the grand and magnificent Leo! Public image is very important to Leo, with luxurious possessions and ways of life, this keeps the public image in high standing. They will do whatever it takes to protect their own reputation. Leos are very generous, kind and openhearted people. If a Leo is crossed, they will strike back with force but they are not one to hold a grudge, they easily forgive, forget and move on. Leos are always trying to make things right in the world, they have larger then life emotions and they need to feel like they have accomplished something at the end of the day. They react to situations with action instead of sitting back and thinking about it, they are not impulsive however because they look at the future and consider consequences of their actions.

Join us at Ecotrust’s Natural Capital Center, a hub for ideas and urban community, for a unique series of free outdoor concerts on First Thursdays this Summer (7/02, 8/06, 9/05). The concerts feature outstanding local performers and street fair-style booths fostering environmental awareness and community engagement. On July 2nd the theme is climate and features Portland Cello Project. Our second concert is August 6th with the theme water and forests and features Orquestra Pacifico Tropical & Mimicking Birds. Our concert series concludes September 3rd with the theme food and will feature Horse Feathers & School of Rock.
Sundown is quintessential summer in Portland – equal parts indie concert, block party, and classic Portland street fair. Each evening, the musical performances will be complemented by a street fair-style Showcase focused on a theme—climate (July), water and forests (August), and food (September). Each Showcase will feature over 40 interactive booths that connect attendees with inspiring organizations working in the Pacific Northwest to deliver inventive solutions within conservation and environmentally-responsible enterprise.
For the first time the series will also line-up with First Thursdays, a 31-year-old tradition when the whole neighborhood comes to life with arts and culture. Ecotrust is inviting a host of creative performers to expand and deepen the series’ cultural engagement, from the Portland Cello Project bringing a whole evening of the famed “All Ages Dance Party” (July) to School of Rock (September). At every show, ice cream bombast and visionary Morgan Street Theatre will dish up one-of-a-kind desserts. Expect the unexpected.
These family-friendly events also include the “Sundown Kid’s Corner” hosted by Metro Portland’s Kids Calendar, with art and educational activities to keep the little rockers happy. Frosty beverages and tasty local fare will be provided by Hot Lips Pizza and Laughing Planet. The series will be powered by a green power source.

The Homer Davenport Community Festival and The Wooden Nickel are Proud to present the Fifth annual Homer Kick Off Party! Held in historic Silverton's tree-filled Coolidge-McClaine City Park. We will be kicking off this huge community party at 7pm, featuring Lloyd Jones Band!
Portland, Oregon roots artist Lloyd Jones has recorded six critically acclaimed albums, toured internationally, and racked up dozens of major awards and accolades. He’s a relentless road dog, hitting festival stages, Delbert’s annual Sandy Beaches Cruises (he’s been a regular on six winter cruises), and clubs all across the land to enthusiastic crowds who can’t get enough of his swampy blues, his backporch picking, his serious-as-anthrax funk, soul, roadhouse two-beats, and old-school rhythm and blues (back before the R&B tag was somehow appropriated for other musical purposes, apparently when we weren’t looking). Yet he may be the most invisible, best-kept roots/blues/Americana secret on the contemporary scene.
Jones is a master of the soulful understatement, the raw growl, and the groove. From his roots in muddy Oregon soil, he’s forged a 30-plus-year career as an impassioned singer and fierce guitar slinger, a clever and soulful songwriter, a bandleader, record producer, and an almost strident torchbearer for all that’s true and good about America’s music. Jones is his own true artist who works diligently at pushing American roots music forward.
What he does, he says, is “combine New Orleans rhythms, the simplicity of Memphis music, and the rawness of the blues, all for the 21st century. This music is not about louder and faster. It’s about time, meter, groove. I thought Muddy and Walter and those guys were pushing the envelope in their era. They were using effects, they were inventing their own sound. They were modern. I want to look at it in a contemporary way.” The gist is all the same — Lloyd Jones is the total package.
The gates open at 6:00 pm with beer, wine and food! And this year, admission is FREE!

Silverton's famous son, Homer Davenport (1867-1912), was an internationally renowned cartoonist in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Homer, left Silverton, fulfilling his desire to become an editorial cartoonist... inspired by his mother's appreciation for the art form. His legacy, however, endures. Homer Davenport Days began in Silverton in 1980. Every year since, the celebrations have kept Silverton's young and old alike in high spirits.
The Homer Davenport Community Festival (August 7, 8, & 9) which is coordinated by the Silverton Rotary Club strives to put the 'Homer' back in 'Homer Days.' To that end, we are reaching into the Homer Davenport archives of writings, photos and illustrations to bring our community's past to life. We plan to celebrate and honor our heritage! Information about the festival can be found on the "Homer Page," (linked below)
There were numerous articles about Silverton's business community; it's schools; surrounding farms; notable citizens of the day, and of course a glowing tribute to Homer Davenport, by then gone for just eleven years. Once again, The Davenport Project will provide a historical focus for the festival, as we continue to celebrate our heritage from yesterday, today and tomorrow.
This year's festival promises to be bigger than ever, while keep our uniquely "home town festival" feel. On tap again for this year: Parade, 10K Fun-Run, The Davenport Races, Food Court, Live Music, Lion’s Club Breakfast, Davenport Cartoon Display, Crafts Fair, Fly Wheels Classic Car Cruise-In, Combined Silverton High School Alumni reunion, Tennis Tournament, Beer Garden, and much much more! Watch these pages for updates and future announcements!

PROPER (People Reaching Other People Expecting Restoration), has been serving the community of North Portland for the past 20+ years. They are now asking all of us in the City of Portland to join them in a gathering of all faiths and non-faiths, local Law Enforcement, and Community Activists to come together and celebrate our differences.
In a time when society is faced with its most complex situations, from Religious Tolerance & Unity, Racial Equality, to LGBT Affirmation, we need to be the example of unity in the midst of chaos. The world is under siege, not by an enemy that can be seen by the naked eye, but one that can only be seen in the Spirit. Prejudice, hatred, bigotry, and despair have plagued our land and are robbing us of our natural inheritance. With this current state of the world there is a need to come together as a people and pray and send good vibes into the atmosphere.
PROPER's mission has been to unite communities across all lines to include the groups and communities of forgotten leaders of our past who laid the foundation that make unity possible for us to celebrate our differences.

For the last 20 years, notorious activists the Yes Men have staged outrageous and hilarious hoaxes to draw international attention to corporate crimes against humanity and the environment. Armed with nothing but thrift-store suits and a lack of shame, these iconoclastic revolutionaries lie their way into business events and government functions to expose the dangers of letting greed run our world. In their third cinematic outing (after The Yes Men and The Yes Men Fix the World), they are now well into their 40s, and their mid-life crises are threatening to drive them out of activism forever – even as they prepare to take on the biggest challenge they’ve ever faced: climate change. More than the first two films, The Yes Men Are Revolting is as much a character study as it is an entertaining depiction of their latest interventions. Revealing the real people behind the ruses, at its heart lies a hopeful message about fighting for change.
KBOO and the Clinton Street Theater have partnered to bring you a monthly film series about....well, it could be about radio, or about anyone of the many programs that KBOO airs--politics, labor, human rights, and, of course, lots of music.
A new film or event every second Thursday of the month, so stayed tuned to the radio and check back on the website, because you never know what might be happening month to month.

The problem is clear. The solution might even be obvious to you but how do you get others on board? How do you get the problem solved?
The Bicycle Transportation Alliance has been advocating for better safer streets since 1990. In this free one-hour clinic, a BTA advocate will share some of the lessons we've learned about how to get your voice heard -- how to get your community's problems solved. Topics covered include messaging, defining success, power mapping, identifying allies, and pressure vs. persuasion.
This month’s Advocacy Clinic will be presented by Elizabeth Quiroz, BTA's advocate focused on East Portland

Surreal character study focusing on the friendship between two male hustlers, Mike and Scott, in Portland, Oregon. They live on the streets, do drugs, and sell themselves to men and women. Mike is quiet, gay and suffers from narcolepsy. Abandoned as a child, he is obsessed with finding his long-lost mother. Scott is the rebellious son of a high-ranking family, who lives this life mostly to embarrass his father. Mike is in love with Scott, who still maintains he is straight and insists that his wild lifestyle on the streets is only temporary. Together, they embark on a quest to find Mike's mother, traveling from Portland to Idaho to Italy, with Scott picking up a beautiful girl along the way
The film is sponsored by the Sex Worker's Outreach Coalition (SWOC) www.pdxswoc.org and benefits STROLL http://portlandstroll.tumblr.com/.
The Clinton Street Theater Sex Worker series celebrates the accomplishments of sex worker film and video makers by screening relevant works about sex workers and the sex industries from around the world.
The films focus on sex workers' rights; organizing efforts and working conditions for strippers; global sex work and sex work as a labor issue on the international agenda; sex workers as artists; queer sex workers; sex work and gender identities; portraits of strippers, prostitutes, doms, madams and more.

Arresting Power: Resisting Police Violence in Portland, Oregon documents the history of conflict between the Portland police and community members throughout the past fifty years. The film features personal stories of resistance told by victims of police misconduct, the families of people who were killed by police, and members of Portland’s reform and abolition movements. Utilizing meditative footage taken at sites of police violence, experimental filmmaking techniques, and archival newsreel, Arresting Power creates a space for understanding the impacts of police violence and imagining a world without police.

Oregon's Beaches and Riversides - Over 100 volunteer-led projects across the state to choose from
We all love Oregon's beaches, rivers and natural areas. For over three decades Oregonians have been proving that by volunteering at the annual SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, presented by the Oregon Lottery. Be part of this volunteer movement, impacting Oregon’s environment, wildlife and communities. It’s an easy, fun way to get outside, meet your neighbors, and make a difference by cleaning up Oregon's rivers, beaches, parks and trails, removing invasive plants or planting plant native trees and shrubs.
There are over 100 volunteer-led projects across the state for you to choose from, including 46 beach cleanup sites coast-wide. Only you can ensure our beaches, rivers and natural areas are kept clean and healthy. Learn more and get involved today at www.solveoregon.org
This event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup and National Public Lands Day.

This is an invitation to change everything. To change everything we need everybody.
A better world is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.
Join us for the largest climate justice mobilization in history as people take it to the streets across the country and world on September 21, including here in Oregon. With our future on the line and the whole world watching, we’ll take a stand to bend the arc of history.
The time is now. Scientists say that action to save our planet in the next year and a half is critical to our survival. This September, World leaders are gathering in New York City for a UN summit on climate change. Across the country, from New York to Portland, OR, the People’s Climate March will show that we stand together, demanding a better world for ourselves and for generations to come.
This calls for unprecedented collaboration—that’s where you come in.
Join us in solidarity for the People’s Climate March in Portland.

GAINING GROUND, a feature-length documentary film by Elaine Velazquez and Barbara Bernstein, tells the stories of farmers making extraordinary changes in their farming practices so they can feed their local communities sustainably grown produce and grains.
From farms in Oregon’s fertile Willamette Valley to underserved communities of color in Richmond, California, GAINING GROUND reveals the tenacity and courage of these diverse urban and rural farmers, committed to serving and empowering their communities. The documentary interweaves experiences of urban farmer-activists in inner city Richmond, California; a small family farm in rural Oregon converting from a commodity dairy to a sustainably grown produce farm; and a large farm in the Willamette Valley transitioning from grass seed to organic grains.
Gaining Ground instills in its viewers the potential to create change on a personal, local and global scale. Our goal is to inspire people to make choices in their own lives that support local and sustainable food and the farmers who are working to take back our food system.
